Mandate:
The Canada Centre for Remote Sensing (CCRS) is the Government of Canada centre of excellence for remote sensing and geodesy. In partnership with government stakeholders, through strong links to academia and private sector, and via international collaborations, CCRS ensures that satellite data works to serve the needs of Canadians. CCRS' Canadian Spatial Reference System provides geodetic data used as standards for accurate three-dimensional positioning. The Earth ObservationData Service encompasses the reception, processing, archiving and dissemination of remotely sensed Earth Observation (EO) data. CCRS' research and development supports new EO sensors for satellite missions, improves EO data quality anddata handling methodologies, and develops value-added EO-based information, applications and services. Thus the potential of EO data is harnessed to provide solutions supporting government mandates ranging from sovereignty, safety and security to environmental monitoring and natural resource management.
